Pizza (.com) sells for $2.6 million

14 years ago, Chris Clark, who now runs an American software company, bought the ‘pizza.com’ domain for just $20. He thought it would help him get a contract with a pizza company…

Well I guess it did in the end, but a much better one than he was originally hoping for - after hearing illion ithat ‘vodka.com’ was sold for $3 million in 2006, he decided to sell it in a week long auction handled by the domain name and website resellers Sedo.

Some more big sales:

  • Business.com sold for $7.5 million in 1999.
  • VIP.com was sold for $1.4 million in 2005 to a gambling company called Leisure & Gaming
  • According to different sources, sex.com was sold for $11m, $12m or $14million to Boston-based Escom LLC
  • Diamonds.com was sold for $7.5 million, and sells diamonds
  • Beer.com was sold for $7 million
  • AsSeenOnTV.com was sold for $5.1 million in 2000
  • Shop.com was sold for $3.5 million
  • Wine.com was sold for $2.9 million in 1999
  • Creditcards.com was sold for $2.75 mn 2004 to a marketing company in Austin, Texas.

On buying CreditCards.com, ClickSuccess CEO Dan Smith said,
“It’s like prime real estate, there’s only so much of this real estate to go around. I feel like we bought a slice of Park Avenue,”
