Still fixing and tuning the website, but also collected my car stickers
Summary: I kept a diary while launching a Devon business directory / community website. This is part of it.
Diary from 4th Oct 2007: Collected my car window stickers from Devon Signs. They actually look really good, very clear. But I do feel a little nervous still about advertising to the people around me, as if they’ll say ‘Who do you think you are?’!
Saw an artist friend in toddler cafe – passed on site details and offered to add listing. Will email her about also setting up a local artists’ community site.
Went into several of the shops that had put up my postcards, thanking them and asking for cards or leaflets so I could put free listings on for them. They seemed to take it better that way. It’s a long hard road learning sales!
Removed the link to the stats program because the site was ridiculously slow. Visitors by country graph still works with the data up to this point though.
Tried a few more things to fix the website problems, but no luck so I posted them on Sigsiu and Joomla forums. Someone called kenmcd has replied offering to help. I’ve seen him posting about Open Sef and he seems to know all about it so I’ve sent him the info. A little nervous also about such a seasoned professional looking around my site!
Someone else has registered but not added a listing. Well maybe he will come back.
Kenmcd sent some recommendations which have required extensive work but seem to have fixed all the problems, and also speeded up the site – hooray! Had many links to fix after this.
Am expecting a few settling in problems with this, perhaps the occasional link I’ve missed. Fingers crossed. Amazingly, in the middle of all the works, the man came back and added his listing. Too bad half the site was offline, but he even emailed to say thanks! How nice! Emailed back to say I was working on it at the time so if there’s any of it he wants to use that’s offline at the time, let me know and I’ll sort it out. Didn’t think he would but at least that explains things.
Also added special offer message to Edit Entry map. Still can’t decide what should be the front page – after all the main function of the site is the directory.
Tired now, it’s midnight again – will add the new shop listings tomorrow.
