Beach Web Design Shop: Broadband and Internet Equipment for Home Offices
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website shop.
I'd like this to be a useful reference for anyone who's thinking of starting a website, as well as hopefully making us the occasional commission! My customers are mostly small businesses and startups (like me), so I've featured companies and products they might find good value and useful. Modems
We've recently upgraded the Beach Web Design network with this all-in-one wireless modem, firewall and router from NetGear. As we've only had it for a couple of days, all I can say is it was incredibly simple to install and it's worked perfectly so far. Amazon had the cheapest price we could find for it on the internet. A firewall is a key part of your internet security system for keeping out hackers, and can be provided either as software or hardware.
Broadband
There are some fantastic broadband deals at the moment. We've got Tiscali broadband at £15.99 / month, and it's worked out well for us, but I do wonder if it would be cheaper to get one of our broadband, landline or mobile phone services free. USwitch.com is a useful resource for comparing broadband deals, but I go round in circles trying to get the best combination of free broadband, free mobile calls, free landline calls, free texts, digital TV etc, and how anyone can send 1000 texts a month is beyond me! Heart Internet, my web hosting provider
Web hosting is the service of storing all the files that make up your website on a computer that is permanently connected to the internet. You'd want your web hosting server to be secure, reliable, fast to access, located in the same country as most of your customers and able to run any software or programming languages that your website requires. (Some examples of these might be ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, FrontPage Extensions, blogging software and MySQL databases).
I provide web hosting and domain name registration from Heart Internet in combination with web design, regular website updates and associated website services. I chose them because they are a solid well established company with reliable servers located in a secure UK based data centre. Recent independent statistics gave their server uptime as 99.94%.
