Help me find that camera!

If you're planning to have photos on your website, it's important to make them the best quality possible, though they also need to be optimised for faster download times, so your visitors aren't waiting around to see what your pictures are. If you're planning to take the photos yourself, these companies can help with the first part. I can't recommend anything specific because I'm planning to upgrade my own camera too. I've got a Canon Power Shot A85 and I've found the shutterlag makes it very annoying trying to take family snaps, firework displays etc, the photos are often too dark, and the flash is often too strong. Continuous shooting mode can get round the shutterlag to some extent, but I'd rather be taking the photos I'm trying to take. If my 35mm point and shoot film camera wasn't broken I'd rather still be using that and getting my photos put onto CD during development. But if you can recommend a good digital camera that takes photos as soon as you press the button, please send me your recommendations and I'll also post them on here.
Jessops provide the full range of camera equipment and photographic services. When I was buying my camera they gave me lots of good advice, eg go for optical rather than digital zoom, and to their credit they didn't recommend the camera I actually bought. The best thing I've bought for my camera is a USB card reader, which makes it much easier for the computer to read the photos from the camera without using up the battery. The next thing I plan to buy (apart from a new camera itself) is a brush for cleaning the lens - they had them in digital photography class and it really did make a difference.
Jessops Picture House is a great service for building up password protected online photo albums and slideshows that you can share with your family and friends over the internet. Once you've uploaded an album of photos you want to show people, send them an email invitation and they can view your pictures online and order prints and customized photo gifts.
Misco sell all kinds of electronic items rather than being a specialist photography website, but I've found much better deals on cameras there than in the High Street.
This website has some top quality cameras and a clearance section that is well worth a look.
Photoshop Elements does everything I'd want it to do for editing, enhancing and optimising photos, and is much easier to use than Photoshop 6. In particular, the 'Save for Web' option produces much better results than in Photoshop 6. I used Photoshop Elements versions 1 and 4 in digital photography classes at the Kennaway Centre, and I bought Photoshop Elements 5 almost as soon as it came out (it's much cheaper now!). I hear it does slideshows, photo galleries, calendars and lots more. I've been testing it out producing images for this website and I'm pleased so far. The only odd thing I've found is that file sizes are not reported consistently - other than that I'll keep you posted on how it goes. It's often been cheaper from Amazon than from Adobe, who make it. As prices seem to change fairly often I'd recommend a bit of comparison shopping.
